Performance of the brand

China Mobile is the largest telecoms company in the world with over 600 million subscribers operating in the fastest growing economy in the world. The company continues to exploit its position as market leader in the Chinese telecoms sector boasting a market share of over 70%. The company is state owned and provides mobile voice and multimedia services.

China Mobile was ranked 38th in Forbes 2000 biggest public companies and ranked 10th in Financial Times Global 500.

The company is in danger of becoming complacent with such a large market share, especially with the news that its main rival China Unicom has obtained the rights to supply the iPhone. China Mobile needs to be aware of this innovative competitor and its growth in the market. It is no longer acceptable for the company to assume it has the right to all new customers.

In 2010, the Group’s operating revenue maintained steady growth, reaching RMB485.2 billion, up 7.3% over last year. Continuing to lead the industry in profitability, the Group achieved 3.9% increase in profit attributable to shareholders over last year, which amounted to RMB119.6 billion, with profit margin reaching 24.7%. EBITDA rose 4.5% over last year to approximately RMB239.4 billion, with EBITDA margin reaching 49.3%. Basic earnings per share grew 3.9% over last year to RMB5.96.
