Performance of the brand

The UnitedHealth Group is a healthcare services provider which manages healthcare administration systems within the United States and abroad. The company offers products which assist managers in implementing their employee benefit programs. UnitedHealth’s services extend to the elderly, as well as other more specialised segments.

The company has recently distilled its various healthcare benefit services into a single, unified brand, UnitedHealthcare, which dominates the US healthcare benefit markets. The group has also recently unified its many health service business brands under the new ‘Optum’ brand name. These major rebranding efforts were put in place in order to conduce a greater contribution to the company’s core brands. The UnitedHealth Group interacts with more than 70 million individuals per year and it will be of far greater benefit to the company and the way it is perceived if that interaction is within the domain of a strong, unified brand.

As of September 2011, UnitedHealth occupies the 76th spot in the BrandFinance Global 500, having risen six places from 82nd on the back of strong business performance. The brand seems to be in a strong position as analysts estimate that healthcare spending could account for more than 20% of US GDP by the end of the decade. Anticipated increases in healthcare spending  bode extremely well for the company’s two streamlined brands, UnitedHealthcare and Optum, which will command far greater awareness within healthcare markets than the the businesses would have previously under a large number of disconnected and weaker brands.
