Piet Moerland, Chairman of the Executive Board of Rabobank Nederland

Member of the Executive Board of Rabobank Nederland (since 2003)
Piet Moerland (1949) is an authoritative scholar (corporate finance and corporate governance) and banker. He graduated cum laude with a degree in Business Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam.
 
His dissertation was recognised with the quadrennial Winkler Prins Award in 1982. Piet Moerland was appointed a member of the Executive Board of Rabobank Nederland in 2003. Prior to this appointment he served as a member of the Advisory Board (2000-2003), a member of the Board of Directors (1987-2000) and a member of the Board of Supervision (1984-1987).

Moerland served as a professor for nearly 25 years in succession at Groningen (Business Administration) and Tilburg (Corporate Finance). He has also held various supervisory directorships throughout his career. Moerland is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the Netherlands Order of Accountants and Administration Consultants and member of the Board of Directors of the Netherlands Bankers’ Association (NVB). Moerland is also president of the Executive Committee of the European Association of Co-operative Banks (EACB/Groupement) and a member of the Board of Directors of the International Raiffeisen Union (IRU).

Bert Bruggink, CFO Executive Board Rabobank Nederland

Member of the Executive Board of Rabobank Nederland, Chief Financial Officer (since 2004) Bert Bruggink (1963) holds a degree in Financial Engineering from the Twente Technological University.
 
He obtained his doctorate in 1989 with a dissertation entitled Performance control in banking at the University of Twente. While still completing his education, he began his career at Rabobank in 1986 in the Central Administration and Management Information department. He was appointed in 1994 to the position of Head of the Control Central Banking Business corporate unit, which later became Control Rabobank International. He also served as Controller/CFO at Rabobank Nederland’s office in London from the summer of 1997 to the summer of 1998. Bruggink was appointed Head of the Control Rabobank Group Directorate in 1998. During this period he held a range of managerial positions within different divisions of the Rabobank Group, including Rabobank Ledencertificaten NV. He joined the Executive Board of Rabobank Nederland as CFO in 2004.

Bruggink has been actively involved with the University of Twente since 1986 to the present. He first served as a member of staff in the Financial Management and Business Economics Department of the Technical Business Administration faculty of the University of Twente. He has fulfilled the position of full professor since early 1996. Since May 2005, Bruggink has furthermore served as a member of supervisory boards including the Supervisory Board of the Isala Clinics in Zwolle.

In addition, Bert Bruggink holds a number of positions on an interbank basis on behalf of Rabobank and the Dutch banks at bodies including the Netherlands Bankers’ Association Policy Committee on Supervision and the Netherlands Bankers’ Association Policy Committee on Monetary Affairs.

Sipko Schat, Member of the Executive Board of Rabobank Nederland

Member of the Executive Board of Rabobank Nederland (since 2006) and Vice Chairman of Rabobank International. After graduating in Law from Groningen University, Sipko Schat (1960) joined Rabobank as a Legal Advisor in 1985 and five years later was appointed Senior Manager for Structured Finance and Vice President at the Rabobank Head Office in Utrecht. 
  
In 1995, he became head of Structured Finance (Global). Four years later, in 1999, key appointments followed: Head of Corporate Finance (Global) and Managing Director of Rabo Merchant Bank N.V. Prior to his appointment to the Executive Board in July 2006, he had been a member of the Rabobank International Managing Board since 2002. In this role he was responsible for the Americas and later Corporate Clients Netherlands as well as a number of global wholesale product areas. He had also seats on the boards of Rabobank Ireland, Rabo India, Utrecht America Holdings and Rabobank North America as well as the supervisory board of Rabo Curacao. 

Sipko Schat has considerable international corporate banking experience to supplement his specialist knowledge and experience in structured finance and equities. He has also seats on the boards of:  Bank Sarasin & Cie AG, Rothschild Continuation Holdings AG, Rabo Real Estate and YES Bank Limited. 

Sipko Schat’s aim is to further develop and implement the Rabobank International strategy for large and mid corporate clients and financial institutions, providing integrated corporate and investment banking solutions to Rabobank’s wholesale client group.
